Location

Circolo Ippico Aprutino is in Loreto Aprutino, in the province of Pescara, about 3.5km from the old town centre, on the hills overlooking the Tavo river valley, at about 230m asl. Historic Loreto Aprutino has an amazing spiral urban plan, circling the hill and ending at the top with Chiola Castle, now a charming hotel facing the San Pietro church. The vast surrounding district is intensely cultivated with olive trees which provide the crops for the prized PDO Aprutino Pescarese EVO. Alongside four other olive oils, this was the first PDO to be officially recognized in Italy. The town also vaunts excellent wineries.

About us and what we do

Circolo Ippico Aprutino is FISE-affiliated for cross-country and endurance riding. The club is run by the Chiappini family: Pasquale (Level 2 endurance instructor and Level 1 horse-driving instructor) and his daughters Gianna (ride leader), Maria (preliminary riding instructor), and Anna (basic instructor). There is a riding school with horses and ponies, and competitive endurance and non-competitive vaulting. Pasquale is also a passionate carriage-driver, so he has taken part in prestigious marathons as well as dressage competitions. He is committed to bringing equestrianism to people with disabilities and has acquired specially adapted carriages for the purpose. Not to mention his involvement with the Compagnia dei Vetturali, a historic participant in the Bue di San Zopito religious ritual (Pasquale is also the ox keeper) that has been re-enacted every Whit Sunday and Whit Monday since 1711 in memory of the arrival of the patron saint’s relics in Loreto.
